Senior Advisor Communications This position description is designed to give an overview of the type of work and performance required for this role and may include other duties as required.

Role Overview
The Senior Advisor Communications provides day-to-day communications advice to the organisation using a broad set of communications, marketing and media skills.
This role will provide broad advice and services to internal clients at a strategic and tactical level. This will include producing and implementing communications plans, collateral and providing services to

support the unit including presentations, briefings, writing, media and internal communications. Liaison with media is required on a roster basis, including outside of normal business hours.
Key Areas of Accountability
Communications, marketing and
media
• Work with the manager and principal advisor to develop and deliver the annual communications plan
• Provide strategic and tactical advice to clients and stakeholders
• Initiate and lead the development of presentations, reports, communications plans, collateral and media releases
• Provide a broad set of advice and services including internal and external communications, media and stakeholder management to internal clients to create solutions for their initiatives
• Work with external agencies to create campaigns and marketing material
• Lead the development of fit for purpose in-house marketing and communications material
• Writing and analysis of media reports
• Manage and direct reactive and proactive media enquiries (this includes outside of business hours work on a rostered basis). Monitor and escalate as required to ensure reputational and other risks are managed
Outcomes:
• External communications strategies and advice provided to senior management and groups is accurate, meaningful and
does not put the organisation at risk
• Reputational risks and issues are identified in a timely manner, advised to the Manager and mitigations are
developed
• Communication activities, including briefings, communications plan, reports and presentations, are accurate, effective and meet requirements of the Authority, clients and stakeholders
• Continuously look to improve the communications, stakeholder and engagement processes, services and interactions of the unit and for the organisation and implement those improvements where possible
• Media communications support is available to the organisation and the Authority Leadership team outside of normal business hours and meets the needs of the organisation
• Effective relationships with media contacts and other key
stakeholders are built and maintained
• Media enquiries are recorded in the information management system and on the media log to ensure enquires are analyst and trends recognised

Stakeholder management and
engagement
• Support the development and delivery of the stakeholder engagement plan
• Contribute to the analysis and reporting of stakeholder feedback and make recommendations on ways to improve the Authority stakeholder engagement work
• Ensure that communications and marketing initiatives are aligned with the goals of the stakeholder engagement strategy and plan
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders and influence to use digital media across the Authority
• Liaise with the Ministry of Transport, across government as required to support the Engagement and Communications business plan and Authority’s goals
Outcomes
• Trust and confidence in the Authority improves
• The Authority had better information about stakeholders views in a timely manner
Digital • Able to self-publish content on the website and social channels including supporting the content plan, regular updates, development of content
• Ensure communications content provided to the senior advisor content and senior digital promotions is fit for purpose and aligns with campaigns
Outcomes:
• Content meets government guidelines and standards for accessibility and provides our audiences with timely and accurate information and advice
Brand • Be a brand guardian and champion for the Authority
• Be a leader within Engagement and Communications to ensure everything we produce is properly branded
• Support Engagement and Communications to ensure the Authority is aware of, adheres to, and supports the use of the brand guidelines and style guide.
Outcomes:
• Our brands are accurately represented
• Brand recognition improves
Safety education • Work alongside the safety education team to produce and deliver workshops, events and publications
• Develop and write content for safety education content as required
Outcomes:
• The safety education team has support on key deliverables
• Strategic aviation safety aims and objectives that have
impact are delivered on
Public information • Manage, respond and escalate (as appropriate) queries and complaints from members of the aviation community and wider public in a timely manner

Outcomes:
• Queries, complaints and requests for public information are handled in a timely manner, escalated as appropriate and documented in a formal system
• All public queries are handled in accordance with service charter and policy timeframes

Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline with a demonstratable 5- 7 years’ experience in a communications field (i.e. Communications, Marketing, Journalism)

An understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles X
Media experience or a background in journalism X
Knowledge of the machinations of government X
