He kōrero mō te tūranga mahi | About the Role

As the Director of Māori Health and Consumer, you will report directly to the Chief Executive and be a key member of the executive leadership team. You will partner with consumers and Māori organisations, leading initiatives that amplify whānau and consumer voices, and shaping recommendations and strategies that deliver more equitable health outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategies to improve Māori health outcomes, driving equity and engagement within the health system.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a dedicated team focused on Māori health and consumer advocacy, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Cultural Competence: Promote and embed Māori cultural intelligence and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into all strategies and operations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including iwi Māori partnership boards, government agencies, health providers, and community organisations.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement robust metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, using data and insights for informed decision-making.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Leadership experience in the health and disability sector, with the ability to provide a clinical perspective on whānau and consumer experiences (preferred).
  • Proven experience working with Māori communities and at-risk or under-served populations, with a strong understanding of cultural competency and equity principles.
  • A deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within the health sector.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and cultural competence.
