Social Service Providers Te Pai Ora o Aotearoa (SSPA) is a collective, inclusive membership-based organisation representing over 230 non-profit, community-based social service organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand. We are committed to strengthening the social sector through advocacy, learning, relationships and leadership.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As Māori Advisor, you will provide cultural leadership and analytical support from a te ao Māori perspective, advancing SSPA’s strategic plan and kaupapa Māori across the organisation. You will tautoko our co-governance model and ensure we operate in line with tikanga Māori. A key part of this role is coordinating our Māori caucus, including its work programme.

You will lead engagement with Māori membership and key partners and build a strategic network of Māori/iwi/hapu leaders and kaupapa Māori social service providers. Bringing a deep knowledge of tikanga Māori, te ao Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, you will contribute to policy development, advocacy, and initiatives that support Māori wellbeing and participation in social services.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You are passionate about advancing Māori aspirations and have:

  • In-depth knowledge of te ao Māori and competency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, especially Māori.
  • Applied understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the social services context.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Arts, Economics, Law, or a related field.
