The Medical Council of New Zealand (the Council) is the regulator for doctors.  Their vision is to have a medical profession all New Zealanders can trust. They protect and promote public health and safety in New Zealand by registering doctors to practise medicine in New Zealand and supporting doctors to practise medicine safely by setting standards, ensuring compliance with those standards, and taking action where concerns are raised.

We’re looking for an experienced senior solicitor to join the Council’s high-performing in-house legal team. Working at the forefront of medicolegal litigation, this role offers amazing opportunities to be immersed in fascinating cases and contribute to better health outcomes for all New Zealanders.

You’ll provide advice to Professional Conduct Committees in relation to doctors’ conduct investigations. You’ll also appear alongside experienced counsel and conduct your own cases in the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, District Court, and High Court.

There are ample opportunities for career development including enhancing your coaching skills, as you supervise less experienced members of the legal team.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce high quality written work
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
