Job Description

The opportunity

Are you a determined and driven individual who is passionate about ensuring health funding decisions are evidence-based and inclusive, especially for Māori, Pacific Peoples and Whaikaha?

Our client is looking for someone who knows the ins and outs of the public hospital system, including the people, the products they use and just about everything else in between.  You will have the knowledge to help them navigate the complexity of the system and the relationships so they can access, use and manage the necessary and relevant expert advice.

As part of a wider project that sits within an established and permanent directorate, you will be joining a delivery team of experienced and passionate professionals who are working together to design the processes to ensure fair access to the medical devices used within our public hospitals.  Together you will contribute to the creation of a cohesive design of the advice networks and frameworks. You will work closely with an Expert Advice Coordinator.

The role

With a particular focus on identifying the types of expert advice and information that will be needed to support decision making, you will be a conduit between the programme team/organisation and the holders of expert advice. You will lead the design of how we get, use and manage expert advice.

You will build strong and trusted relationships with clinicians, suppliers, procurement teams, patient interest groups and other health sector partners and utilise these relationships to access and ensure advice is:

  • Accessed through the reliable recruitment of expert advisors
  • Of the right kind and is fit for purpose
  • Assessed for quality and calibrated across advisors
  • Variable and agile depending on need

About You

As well as having established and effective connections and a solid understanding of and experience working within NZ hospital systems, you will be agile and persistent and have:

  • Insights into the public hospital system in NZ
  • A working knowledge of clinical and technical specialities
  • Experience appraising evidence as part of decision making
  • A proven ability to build strong relationships with a broad range of people
  • Evidence of a continuous and process improvement mindset
  • Strong knowledge of Māori and Pacific health issues
  • Knowledge of medical devices and their uses
  • Understanding of te ao Māori and te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Current eligibility to work in NZ

Next steps

This is great opportunity for someone who is working in a role within or closely interacting with the public hospital system to gain experience within a broader public sector agency.  If you are interested in hearing more about this 18-month fixed term opportunity and to be part of this important mahi, please contact me on 021 539 043.
