Emerge Aotearoa Group is a charitable organisation delivering a broad range of health, social and housing services. The people we serve are from diverse communities, all parts of the country, and all walks of life.

Our mahi is guided by our strategic Pou: Māori succeeding as Māori, Thriving Pacific Peoples and Lived Experience and Diversity are Privileged.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

This newly expanded role will provide pivotal support to the Group’s five boards and associated committees.   There are well established processes and technologies to support effective governance within the organisation, with opportunities to further enhance best practice over time.

In addition to the Company Secretarial mahi, you will establish the organisation’s first in-house legal function with a broad remit to support and deliver the organisation in its work with Government and partner organisations to deliver better outcomes for disadvantaged communities.

You will be working within a newly formed Governance and Strategy Directorate, with excellent support to get established and thrive.   This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable lawyer with a desire to make a difference.  You will have the opportunity to apply and grow your governance knowledge while adding value and insight across a range of legal contexts.

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience supporting governance processes in other organisations (preferably with experience using Diligent or similar Board portal)
  • Excellent organisational, written and oral communication skills.
  • 5+ years' PQE with broad legal knowledge and experience.
  • A current New Zealand practicing certificate (or the ability to obtain one)

Our successful candidate will bring a genuine commitment to respecting people’s rights and supporting those in need.  You will embrace our kaupapa, and bring an understanding and committment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
