Our client is an energy company with a strong New Zealand brand and nationwide coverage. It is part of an international business with offices in Asia Pacific and North America. Located in their stylish Wellington CBD head office, you will be part of a high-functioning legal team with interesting work and exciting career opportunities. 

About the role

In this Legal Counsel role, you will deliver legal advice and support which is commercial, clear, pragmatic and fit for purpose.

On a day-to-day basis, you will work closely with the Customer Business Unit, its loyalty and marketing team and its commercial businesses to provide advice on a wide variety of matters arising in the retail and wholesale setting regarding consumer law, intellectual property and contracts. You will enjoy a broad range of commercial contracts to review, negotiate and draft, including advising on internal procurement processes.

About you

What you will offer:

• Around 3-6 years’ PQE and currently admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial arrangements and operating in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound knowledge in two or more of the following: commercial, competition, energy, property and consumer law.
• Demonstrated experience of adding value for internal customers through the provision of pragmatic advice, ongoing process improvement, and creation of self-help tools.
• Sound commercial judgement, with the ability to apply your understanding of the business strategy and operating environment.

Training and support will be provided to upskill any new areas of law.
