Our client is an energy company with a strong New Zealand brand and nationwide coverage. It is part of an international business with offices in Asia Pacific and North America. About the role

In this Senior Legal Counsel role, you will work closely with the Lead Counsel responsible for providing legal support for the organisation’s transition to new energy solutions. This provides an exciting opportunity to work at the cutting edge of new technology and innovation, helping drive strategic business change.

Your role will include a broad range of commercial contracts review, negotiation and drafting, as well as advising on customer facing communications and regulatory matters. 

On a day-to-day basis, you will also work alongside the energy solutions and electricity retail businesses, delivering legal advice and support which is commercial, clear, pragmatic and fit for purpose.

About you

What you will offer:

• From 6+ years’ PQE and currently admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
• Corporate/ commercial law experience including drafting and negotiating commercial arrangements and operating in a fast-paced work environment.
• Sound knowledge in two or more of the following: commercial, electricity, consumer, company and/or competition.
• A strong interest in new energy solutions, and leading innovative, strategic business change.
• Willingness to build knowledge and capability across the business including through creation of templates and provision of training.
• Sound commercial judgement, with a good understanding of the business strategy and operating environment.

Training and support will be provided to upskill any new areas of law.
