A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced solicitor with a passion for information law, public law and privacy to join a newly established Risk and Assurance Team within the public service.  

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Senior Solicitor, you will play a leading role in providing specialised legal advice and support within a small legal team that is part of the Risk and Assurance function. The position offers an exceptional opportunity to work across government and to contribute to significant policy and legislative reform. Your work will include the provision of timely and influential legal advice, advising on risk and risk management, working collaboratively with legal and non-legal practitioners within the organisation, and building and maintaining connections and relationships with external stakeholders from across government and beyond.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A Bachelor of Laws and current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • 5 to 7+ years’ PQE, with a broad base of legal experience (potentially spanning privacy law, public and administrative law, information law, commercial law and regulation)
  • A strong understanding of the in-house public sector environment (prior experience working the public sector is a plus)
  • The ability to provide pragmatic, practical advice and actionable solutions
  • The confidence and ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills (including the capacity to engage and influence stakeholders across multiple disciplines)
  • An understanding of how Te Tiriti o Waitangi applies within the public service
