Aotearoa is facing a significant mental health crisis, especially within our schools. Rising concerns around student wellbeing and teacher burnout highlight the urgent need for effective, culturally grounded solutions.

Hauora Aotearoa is a kaupapa Māori not-for-profit organisation committed to driving generational change through mental wellbeing programmes, so that rangatahi can live well, learn well, and lead well.

Te Angitū | The Opportunity

Hauora Aotearoa is seeking an inspiring General Manager to join a small purpose-driven team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and embody wellbeing through kaitiakitanga and kawa ora, championing holistic hauora across Aotearoa.

As General Manager you’ll be responsible for securing and growing sustainable funding and strengthening external relationships. You will guide the development of Hauora Aotearoa programme content delivery and ensure funding compliance and contractual standards are met.

The role is part-time, permanent, remote working with travel requirements to either Wellington or Auckland on a monthly basis.

To be successful in the role, you bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in rangatahi, hauora, education, or community development settings.
  • A deep understanding of Te Ao Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches to wellbeing.
  • Proven ability to secure and grow sustainable funding streams.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking with programme oversight capabilities.
  • Confidence in contract management and compliance.
  • A commitment to role-modelling hauora and holistic wellbeing in both professional and personal contexts.
  • Fluency in te reo Māori is an advantage.
