We are seeking passionate, values-driven individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As a trustee, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the Mission’s vision, providing strategic oversight, and ensuring our services continue to deliver meaningful impact for Auckland’s marginalised communities. This is more than a governance role – it’s an opportunity to make a lasting difference and help shape a future where everyone can thrive.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
- Champion Te Tāpui Atawhai’s mission, vision, and values in all governance decisions.
- Provide strategic direction, financial oversight, and risk management to ensure the Mission’s sustainability and effectiveness.
- Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring our leadership, strategy, and systems reflect our commitments and aspirations.
- Foster positive relationships with stakeholders, including beneficiaries, funders, donors, community partners, and government agencies.
- Collaborate with fellow trustees, management, and external partners to contribute to a cohesive and effective board.
- Demonstrate cultural fluency and integrity, particularly in working with Māori and Pasifika communities, ensuring governance decisions are culturally responsive and respectful.
He kōrero mōu ake | About you
We welcome applications from individuals with a range of professional, community, and lived experiences that strengthen our governance. Ideal candidates will bring:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in governance or similar roles in social services, healthcare, community development, or related sectors.
- Whakapapa to a hapū o Aotearoa and have an advanced understanding of mātauranga Māori, including proficiency in te reo Māori and deep understanding of tikanga Māori.
- Integrity, empathy, and a commitment to supporting marginalised populations.
- The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully across cultures and perspectives.
- Flexibility and openness to learning from diverse viewpoints and experiences.
