The Takeovers Panel carries out a key regulatory function in relation to a specialised area of financial markets regulation. We supervise compliance with the Takeovers Code which seeks to ensure that shareholders in New Zealand’s largest companies have a fair opportunity to participate in control-change transactions.
About the role
As a lawyer in our team, you will oversee high profile and complex transactions.
You will undertake enforcement activities that include assessing compliance with legal requirements, preparing responses to complaints, preparing legal advice for the Panel, and processing applications for exemption or approval. You will also be involved in law reform projects and handle public enquiries.
Our work requires careful legal analysis and an understanding of commercial incentives and motives. We want people who can develop into technically excellent and commercially astute lawyers.
We are looking to complete the recruitment process by Christmas so the new lawyer can begin early in the New Year.
About you
We are seeking a law graduate with up to two years’ PQE. Ideally you will have completed your professional studies, although this is not essential as we are willing to support the successful applicant through this process.
In addition to a strong academic transcript, you will have excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with high profile decision makers.
Above all, we’re looking for a team player who shows a high degree of initiative and enthusiasm and can contribute to our supportive and collegial culture.
The opportunity
We have a fantastic team culture, which is highly collaborative and embraces flexible working.
Under the guidance of our General Counsel and CEO, you will enjoy first-class mentoring and supervision, regular training and career development opportunities. In addition, this role offers exposure to and engagement with top industry practitioners. We care about our staff and one of our points of difference is the training we provide.
