We protect and promote public health and safety in New Zealand by registering doctors to practise medicine in New Zealand and supporting doctors to practise medicine safely by setting standards, ensuring compliance with those standards, and taking action where concerns are raised.
Mō te tūranga, mōu hoki | About the role and who we’re looking for:
We are seeking a motivated and highly organised individual to join the Council as a Professional Standards Adviser. This role is part of a high performing and collaborative team that focuses on the Council's obligations to protect the public by ensuring doctors are fit to practise.
As a case manager, you will be responsible for a varied and interesting workload covering conduct and competence notifications relating to doctors that are referred to the Council. You also have the opportunity to identify improvements for the team, as we continuously look to identify smarter ways of working.
This is a busy role, that will offer interesting, varied, and challenging work.

- Bring a collaborative approach to this supportive and friendly team.
- Have well-developed business writing skills.
- Have previous case management experience.
- Have strong verbal and presentation skills.
- Have excellent relationship management skills.
- Have sound judgement and analytical skills.
- Appreciates and understands the need for confidentiality in dealing with sensitive data.
Experience in a legal or regulatory role is favourable, but not essential. Also, experience in the health sector or familiarity with the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 would be advantageous.
