About the role

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive (CE) will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction at a pivotal time in RWNZ’s history. As we celebrate our centenary, the CE will play a key role in driving organisational growth, modernisation, and enhanced visibility—ensuring RWNZ remains the leading voice for rural women.

A core part of your role will be to champion RWNZ’s public profile and advocacy at local, national, and international levels. You will build and nurture relationships with members, government, business, and community partners.

You will be responsible for embedding the newly implemented organisational structure, building a high-performing and collaborative team, and delivering a highly responsive service to members. You will also drive innovation, financial sustainability, and operational excellence.

This role is envisaged as 32 hours per week and is based at the National Office in Wellington.

About you

We are seeking a courageous, collaborative leader who is passionate about rural communities and brings:

  • Proven executive leadership experience, ideally in a not-for-profit, membership, or rural sector organisation.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • A strategic mindset and the ability to drive innovation and growth.
  • Experience building partnerships and securing funding.
  • Strong digital acumen and a commitment to modernising systems and processes.
  • The ability to engage and inspire a diverse membership base.
  • Knowledge of rural community issues and challenges is highly desirable.
