Job Description
You’ll be assisting a Strategy, Governance and Risk function within a complex public sector organisation. This role sits close to senior leadership and governance forums, supporting high‑quality strategy, planning, performance, and accountability outcomes.
This is a delivery‑focused role suited to someone who enjoys working across ambiguity, producing clear written advice, and coordinating inputs from across a large organisation.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager Strategy and Governance, you’ll be part of a collaborative advisory team responsible for organisational strategy, strategic intentions, performance reporting, and governance processes.
Depending on your strengths and experience, your work will include:
- Refreshing and delivering organisational strategy and strategic intentions
- Leading or contributing to the annual report process
- Coordinating planning and reporting processes aligned to budget and accountability cycles
- Producing high‑quality performance reports for senior leadership and governance committees
- Synthesising inputs from across the organisation into clear, coherent outputs
- Providing trusted advice on strategy, performance, and accountability obligations
You’ll work closely with executive leaders, internal governance committees, and central agencies.
What we’re looking for
We’re interested in people who bring sound judgement, strong writing skills, and the ability to deliver in a fast‑moving environment. You’ll likely have:
- Experience in strategy, planning, performance, or accountability roles within the public sector
- Proven ability to draft and review complex written material for senior audiences
- Confidence managing multiple workstreams and competing deadlines
- Strong relationship‑building skills and a collaborative working style
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and adapting as priorities evolve
Experience with accountability documents (such as strategic intentions, annual reports, or performance reporting) is desirable but not essential if you bring strong transferable capability.
Why this opportunity
You’ll be working across the organisation— strengthening organisational performance, transparency, and decision‑making at scale. The team values collaboration, flexibility, and high standards, and there is scope for the role to extend depending on organisational needs.
The organisation is committed to working effectively with Māori and to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi across its work.
