Job Description

We are the Kaitiaki / Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation. The Legal team is primarily responsible for advising on all legal matters impacting the Guardians, the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, the Elevate Fund and other mandates.  You will be joining a high performing and collaborative team that is well supported internally and externally.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

In this newly created role, you will report directly to the General Counsel.  You will provide legal advice on a range of general matters including information technology, privacy, data and cyber security, intellectual property, procurement, Official Information Act requests, and general corporate and commercial matters.

You will act as the primary legal contact for all technology, data and commercial contractual arrangements.  This includes arrangements with our data, cloud and software providers, third party suppliers, consultants, insurers and global custodian.  Where required you will be the legal representative on all relevant Working Groups in the Technology space.

You will also assist the General Counsel and wider legal team on opportunities and initiatives to assess, introduce and adopt new ways of working (especially through the use of existing and new technologies). 

You will partner other business units to deliver strategically focused legal advice to enable business outcomes and informed risk-based decision making.

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following:

  • A Strong background in general corporate and commercial law
  • 5+ years PQE
  • An interest and experience with technology law
  • A real interest and passion for improving ways of working and using existing and new tools and technologies to create more effective working environments
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • A collegial, constructive approach, including the ability to foster both internal and external relationships
  • Strong values alignment.
