The Board Secretariat function is responsible for advising on all governance matters relating to the Board.  You will be joining a high performing and collaborative team that is well supported throughout the organisation.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

In this newly created role, you will report to the General Manager, Corporate Affairs. 

The Board Secretariat works closely with all areas of the Guardians, especially the Board Chair and CEO.

The role encompasses a broad remit, including:

  • Working collaboratively with the Board Secretary to deliver best practice corporate governance for an organisation that manages a global sovereign wealth fund of over $70 billion
  • Along with the Board Secretary, managing and delivering effective governance support to the Board and Committees including deputising for the Board Secretary and attending and minuting meetings, as required
  • Contributing to governance reporting, including the governance statement in the Annual Report
  • Supporting business units to develop policies and procedures that reflect regulatory and operational needs and driving a policy and procedures simplification programme to improve their accessibility and practicality
  • Driving continuous improvements in governance processes including the quality of Board and Committee papers and smooth administration of meetings
  • Assisting the Board Secretary with the induction of new Board members, and the development and implementation of induction and ongoing education programmes
  • Supporting the Board skills self-assessment process, and assisting with co-ordinating Board and Committee evaluations with Chair and/or external consultants as applicable
  • Providing training to the business to ensure that they are up to date with important governance matters and to improve the production of Board materials

This is a senior role, with the opportunity for further growth and progression.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A corporate governance or legal qualification with general corporate governance experience or experience in advising Boards
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to think broadly on issues and apply sound judgement in problem solving
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills; able to work proactively as well as collaboratively and to prioritise effectively.
