Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
The newly created Pou Ārahi Māori reports directly to the Secretary General. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you would be the kaitiaki and lead cultural advisor for NZRC, playing a key role in understanding our relationship to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and giving effect to it, as well as engaging with Maori to achieve better outcomes for vulnerable people.
The role includes wider community and sector engagement, providing leadership and strategic direction on the development and implementation of an engagement plan to progress partnerships and relationships with Māori.
You will be working across the organisation to build strong relationships with iwi, hapū and hapori Māori that will enable us to be effective when we’re needed on the ground in response to devastating weather events or other humanitarian situations.
Underpinning this work, you will be responsible for developing a multi-year strategic programme, including the development of a Te Ao Māori framework, that will weave tikanga and Māori practices into strategic systems and processes.
You will also drive initiatives that will enhance cultural and engagement capability across the organisation, with tangible results and benefits.
This role would ideally be located in Poneke | Wellington, though other locations will be considered and flexible working arrangements are well established.
Mōu | About you
We are seeking a strategic leader who has previous hands-on experience working with Māori communities and who has transformational and authentic leadership qualities with proven ability to drive cultural capability uptake and inspire others to come on a Te Ao Māori journey.
To be successful in this role you will offer:
- Strong iwi networks and extensive experience building linkages with iwi, hapū and Kaupapa Māori organisations.
- Highly developed knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Competency with Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori
- Experience in leading cultural change, modelling and encouaging new ways of working, and reinforcing desired behavioural change
- Demonstrated track record of establishing credibilty, personal impact and building excellent working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Evidence of having developed Māori cultural compentence and influenced strategic direction and implementation in organisations.
- Strong communication skills, able to educate and faciliate
- Solid experience in influencing people , leading work programmes and change management
- Previous experience working in a senior leadership role.
