Our client is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join their Corporate & Commercial legal team. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Auckland. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of New Zealand’s largest national organisations by providing expert legal advice in a dynamic and meaningful public sector environment.

As a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel, you will be part of a dedicated and collegial team. You will play a pivotal role in delivering pragmatic and high-quality commercial legal advice. Your expertise will help navigate complex legal matters, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and requirements. You will provide strategic guidance on a wide range of matters, including procurement, commissioning, ICT contracting, and other commercial and contract issues.
This role is integral to supporting the organisation’s objectives and ensuring that legal solutions align with its overarching commitments and targets.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in law and a current NZ practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one).
- A minimum of 3-5 years PQE, ideally with some experience in an in-house legal environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial legal matters, including contract law, procurement, commissioning, and ICT contracting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice.
- A commitment to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of how those principles apply to this role.
Although not essential, experience with intellectual property, litigation, privacy, data/cyber security, IT law, and/or health and safety would be beneficial.
