Pouako | Facilitator – Hauora Aotearoa

Aotearoa is facing a significant mental health crisis, especially within our schools. Rising concerns around student wellbeing and teacher burnout highlight the urgent need for effective, culturally grounded solutions.

Hauora Aotearoa is a kaupapa Māori not-for-profit organisation committed to driving generational change through mental wellbeing programmes, so that rangatahi can live well, learn well, and lead well.

Te Angitū | The Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic and adaptable heart-led Pouako facilitators to join our small but purposeful whānau and deliver our mental wellbeing programme in secondary schools across Wellington and Auckland.

As Pouako, you will facilitate and deliver engaging learning experiences that foster resilience and wellbeing using a bottom-up, trauma-informed approach. You’ll adapt your methods to meet the needs of disengaged rangatahi, sharing Te Whare Tapa Whā tools to help them cope with change, manage emotions and build strong, trusting relationships ensuring the ongoing success of our kaupapa.

He kōrero mōu ake | About you

To be successful in the role;

  • You have a background in youth work, counselling or mentorship.
  • You have a heart for rangatahi and can connect with them authentically.
  • You have lived experience and embody the wellbeing practices we teach.
  • You respect and understand te ao Māori and its principles, fluency in te reo is a bonus, but not essential.
  • You are prepared, punctual and a positive team player.
  • You are open to learning, can pivot in the moment and thrive in dynamic environments.
