Mō te tūranga | About the role

We are looking for a Ringa Rehe Take Whakatewha | Senior Policy Analyst, for a 12-month fixed term contract to cover a maternity leave. You will be based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and be part of an engaged and passionate rōpū that looks to advance the interests of iwi in their reciprocal relationship with the moana.

You will be leading work within the Fisheries management and Fisheries settlement space, working to advance iwi interests. You will provide robust advice to enable iwi aspirations and contribute to removing obstacles. This will involve working alongside Mandated Iwi Organisations, as well as the fishing industry and Crown.

You will have the ability to think critically, analyse policies and legislation, identify impacts, and act as a connector.  You will lead, coordinate, and contribute to this broader work program including responses to Government.

He kōrero mōu |About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A passion for the Oceans ideally with a background in marine science or environmental studies.
  • Knowledge of the seafood industry, specifically fishing management and/or related legislation is desirable.
  • Proven experience engaging and working alongside iwi, hapū, and Government agencies.
  • Ability to create, maintain and influence relationships to best deliver aspirations.
  • A working knowledge of Te Triti o Waitangi and the ability to operate in te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā environments.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role is ideal.
