Senior Commercial Lawyer

Fantastic opportunity to join a respected public sector agency that leads policy, regulation, and support for New Zealand’s vital primary industries —agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, and forestry—and plays a key role in New Zealand's response to climate change.

This is a stand-out in-house legal role, offering high-quality, varied commercial work. You’ll advise on and draft funding and procurement agreements that drive cutting-edge research, innovation, and programmes making a real difference—often with positive media attention.

You'll be part of a large, collegial legal team with deep senior expertise. The team environment supports collaboration and knowledge sharing, while allowing you the autonomy to lead matters aligned with your experience.

While the role is ideally based in Wellington, other locations may be considered. It is an office-based position.

What you’ll bring:

• A Bachelor of Laws and a current (or eligible) Practising Certificate
• 5+ years’ experience in commercial law, particularly drafting and advising on contracts
• Familiarity with government processes and the Treaty of Waitangi
• Excellent judgement, analytical thinking, and communication skills
• A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills
• A values-driven mindset and resilience
