Senior Solicitor (Resource Management), 5+ years’ PQE – South Island

Are you an experienced legal professional with a passion for environmental law and resource management? Our client is seeking a specialist Resource Management Senior Solicitor to join their South Island team on a fixed-term, part-time basis. This is a remote role, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to a national organisation while working from the comfort of your home.
This position is to cover parental leave and will run until June 2026, with a commitment of 25-30 hours per week. If you are self-motivated, enjoy working independently and having autonomy over your work, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
As a Senior Solicitor you will play a pivotal role in providing legal and policy expertise on resource management issues. Your responsibilities will include preparing and presenting submissions on proposed district and regional planning documents (including proposed plan changes); drafting submissions on proposed legislative and regulatory changes; appearing at council hearings and before the Environment Court; advising on general resource management issues, including specific legal questions from the organisation; and more.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A Bachelor of Laws and current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
- 5+ years’ PQE, with demonstrated experience and expertise in resource management, environmental law and local government.
- Enthusiasm, diligence, and the ability to work autonomously to deliver high-quality legal advice, as well as well-rounded practical solutions.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, including the ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholder groups.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
